The private Krankenversicherung (private health insurance) is a type of Krankenversicherung (health insurance) in Germany. It is an alternative to the gesetzliche Krankenversicherung (statutory health insurance).
The private Krankenversicherung is available to certain groups of people, for example:
- self-employed people
- civil servants
- people with higher incomes
You usually pay for doctor visits and medical treatment yourself first. The insurance company then pays you back for the costs covered by your insurance plan.
