Counseling centres

Quite a few refugees have had traumatic experiences due to war and displacement, have lost their mental balance or suffer from mental illnesses. They need professional help.

The psychosocial contact and counselling centres (KBSen) are present with their staff both in the accommodations on site and in their own rooms.

Social workers and psychologists provide counselling in various languages or with the help of interpreters. They can assess the mental health status and clarify the need for medical treatment. They support you in finding a referral to the psychiatric help system.

Each contact and counselling centre offers a weekly programme in its district, which you can find out about on the website of the respective KBS.

• Advice for women in special circumstances (pregnancy, single parenthood, domestic violence, sexualised violence)
• Making forms understandable: Translations of official forms for applying for social benefits in different languages.

If necessary and on request, language mediation is organised.

• Free and independent specialist advice on the recognition of professional qualifications acquired abroad.
• Information on the procedure, costs and duration of the process
• Support in compiling the necessary documents and recommendation on the reference occupation
• Referral to the competent office in the recognition procedure
• Qualification counselling in the context of the recognition laws

We provide free advice on asylum and residence law issues, dealing with violence and discrimination, accommodation and health. If necessary and in conflict situations, we accompany to offices and accommodations.

We provide counseling by appointment:

Malteser Medicine is for people without health insurance, people without valid residence status, and we help people without health insurance find a doctor who provides initial examination and emergency care in case of sudden illness, injury or pregnancy.

MMM's practice has consultations for the following specialties:

Medibüro Berlin does not offer medical treatment itself, but arranges anonymous and free treatment by qualified medical professionals for migrants without residence status and without health insurance.

If necessary, we can provide financial support for aids or medication. It is not possible to provide financial support for medication in the case of chronic illnesses, in the case of serious, long-term illnesses or for subsequent reimbursement of costs for medical treatment or medication. In these cases, we try to find and refer alternative solutions.

[DeepL:] International professionals can obtain information and advice on questions relating to the recognition of their foreign professional qualifications. The multilingual telephone hotline is available to professionals who work or would like to work in Berlin.

The hotline advisors provide initial orientation for those seeking advice and answer basic questions. They will help you find the right recognition office or refer you to the recognition counseling centers of the IQ Netzwerk Berlin.

If further questions need to be clarified, referrals are made to other counseling services such as those of the Berlin Job Center, the Berlin Counseling Center for Education and Career, or the Welcome Center.

The project is a cooperation between the Senate Department for Integration, Labor and Social Affairs, the Berlin Senate Commissioner for Integration and Migration, the Berlin-Brandenburg Regional Directorate of the Federal Employment Agency, the Berlin Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Berlin Chamber of Skilled Crafts.

In the tenancy advice service, you will receive all the important information on the subject of finding an apartment. You will also learn about your rights and obligations as a tenant and where you can find housing offers. This counselling is voluntary. You will be supported by language mediators.
