The Willkommenszentrum offers counselling without appointment. We can only give you counselling / advice if you have a Berlin connection.

Counselling without appointment

In urgent cases, we recommend that you come to our fixed consultation hours. You don't need an appointment for this, just take a waiting number.

Open office hours for German residence law and social issues

For questions about residence permits , visas, naturalization, LEA, asylum, temporary suspension of deportation, job center , citizen's benefit, child or parental allowance and so on.

For questions about recognition of qualifications (university or professional), job search, apprenticeships , employment law, studying, business start-up, German courses and so on.

Waiting numbers

We open at 8:30 in the morning and at 13:30 in the afternoon. From then on you can draw a waiting number. Registration for counselling / advice starts at 9:00 a.m. or 2:00 p.m.

Important:

Many people come to us. People are often waiting before we even open. On many days, the waiting numbers are quickly empty. If you don't get a waiting number, we unfortunately can't offer you counselling / advice on that day. There is no guarantee that you will get counselling / advice on the same day!

Counselling / advice with appointment

If your request takes some time or you can't wait long during the week because of work or school, we recommend making an appointment.

At the moment, we can only make an appointment three weeks after your request at the earliest. Alternatively, you can also come by during our consultation hours without an appointment.

Notes for counselling / advice

Bring all important documents relating to your question to the counselling / advice session. For example, documents relating to your stay, letters from the public authorities and so on. Otherwise we won't be able to answer all of your questions.

Have you already been to the Willkommenszentrum? Then you can also request your follow-up appointment directly from your counselling / advice service. Or you can state the name of your counselor at reception or in your email.

Approach

You can reach the Willkommenszentrum by bus, S-Bahn, U-Bahn and train. The shortest route is from the bus stop "Potsdamer Brücke". If you are traveling via S+U Potsdamer Platz, you can take the M48 or M85 bus from here. The buses are usually barrier-free and have a ramp.

You can also take the U1 or U3 to U Kurfürstenstraße. The station has an elevator and many subway trains have barrier-free access.

To plan your journey to the Willkommenszentrum, visit the website of the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG). We do not recommend traveling by car, as there are only a few parking spaces in the area.

Rooms and equipment

The Willkommenszentrum is on the first floor. The advice center is open and accessible to everyone. The signage outside and inside is always multilingual, at least in German and English.

There is free WiFi on site.

The entrance is step-free. During consultation hours, you can open the outside door automatically with a wheelchair-accessible switch on the right-hand side. All rooms are located on the first floor, so you can move around easily and barrier-free / accessible.

There are plenty of chairs in the waiting room so that you can sit down while you wait. There is a small play area for children. You will find a water dispenser and glasses on site.

You will find several toilets in the Willkommenszentrum. There is also a wheelchair-accessible toilet without an automatic door. If you need help opening this door, please contact the staff. There is a changing table in the wheelchair-accessible toilet for people with children. There is an inductive hearing system for people with a hearing impairment.

The counselling rooms are separated from the waiting room. Some rooms have doors.

Important

At the Willkommenszentrum, we attach great importance to respectful interaction. Hate, violence or discrimination of any kind have no place here. If you feel uncomfortable or experience discrimination on site, please contact the staff. We will help you further.

The Willkommenszentrum team is working to further reduce barriers so that everyone can use the services on offer. Feel free to give us feedback if you have any criticism or suggestions on what we can do better on site.

We are the Willkommenszentrum Berlin, the advice center of the Commissioner for Participation, Integration and Migration of the Berlin Senate. We provide people with information and guidance if they are new to Berlin or already live here and need support. The counselling / advice is for all people without a German passport and people with migration stories, as well as their relatives.

We provide counselling / advice on residency, naturalization, education and further vocational training and the job market. We provide guidance in difficult life situations and explain what solutions and (financial) assistance are available. We are a government agency, but we provide independent, confidential advice that is always in the interests of those seeking advice. As an ombudsman's office, we are subject to a duty of confidentiality.

What we stand for

All people should have access to their rights. Regardless of origin, residence status, language, religion, disability, age, gender or sexual and gender identity as well as social status. Many people experience discrimination or barriers in everyday life. We want to reduce these barriers.

This includes explaining information simply. We use clear language and show step by step what is possible. But we also set limits, for example when decisions are made by other public authorities or when legal requirements leave little room for maneuver.

We create a place where people can ask questions without being afraid. We listen, we take concerns seriously and we treat everyone with respect. We want to empower those seeking advice so that they can make their own decisions.

How we work

Our counselling / advice is professional, thorough and transparent. We are lawyers, social workers and administrative staff and our team has a lot of experience. We explain to those seeking advice what the current situation means and show them what options are available. Those seeking advice decide for themselves which path they want to take.

We know that we can't do everything. We can't represent people seeking advice in court. We don't fill out all the forms, but show them how to do it themselves. If we can't give advice on a topic, we explain where to get good support. And we get help from the team if we can't answer a question ourselves.

Our team has a wide range of expertise in migration law, social law, the labor market and many other areas. We regularly undergo further training, discuss difficult questions as a team and support each other. Mistakes can happen. The important thing for us is that we talk about them openly and learn from them.

Our network and our responsibility

We work together with many agencies in Berlin. We help with contact with public authorities, for example with job centers , social welfare offices or the LEA. This enables us to provide targeted support to those seeking advice with their questions and problems. We only contact other agencies if our advice seekers want us to.

We also work closely with other advice centers. Every Tuesday, other organizations and the employment agency provide advice on the job market at the Willkommenszentrum. This allows us to answer even more questions under one roof.

We are both an advice center and part of the Berlin administration. We take this role very seriously. We gather experience from counselling / advice, recognize patterns and make suggestions for structural changes to the relevant bodies. In this way, we help to improve structures and address problems at an early stage.

Accessible and open to all

Our service is free of charge and open to all people with a connection to Berlin. We are also there for people who have no documents.

At the same time, we know that there are obstacles: full consultation hours, long queues or waiting times for an appointment. All of the counsellors at the Willkommenszentrum do their best. But we also have limits. Counselling / advice may not take place due to illness or other reasons. We may not be able to offer counselling/advice to everyone on the same day. We are working to reduce such barriers. This includes providing clear information, scheduling appointments and further developing our services, including digitally.
