What is that?
The Erklärung über gemeinsames Sorgerecht (declaration of joint custody) is a document. With this declaration, both parents state that they jointly care for their child and make important decisions together.
Where can I get it?
You can complete the declaration at the Jugendamt (Youth Welfare Office). There, the document is prepared and signed. You can also apply for the declaration online.
How does it look?
The declaration is an official form. It includes, for example:
• the name of the mother and the father
• the name of the child
• the declaration that both parents want to take joint custody
At the end, both parents sign the form. Afterwards, the Jugendamt (Youth Welfare Office) confirms the document.
