The Bürgeramt (Citizens' Office) is an important authority in Berlin. There, you can submit many applications and receive certificates, for example for your housing or personal documents.

What are the authority's responsibilities?

Each district in Berlin has a Bürgeramt (Citizens' Office). The Bürgeramt is there for everyone who lives in Berlin.

At the Bürgeramt, you can take care of many matters related to life in Berlin, for example:

  • Registering and deregistering your residence
  • Applying for a Wohnberechtigungsschein (WBS) (certificate of eligibility for subsidized housing)
  • Applying for an eID card

You can make an appointment at any Bürgeramt (Citizens' Office) in Berlin, including Bürgerämter in other districts.

If you are in an asylum procedure, the Bürgeramt Rathaus Tiergarten and the Bürgeramt Hohenzollerndamm are responsible for you.
