What is that?
A Kinderreisepass (child passport) is a travel document and proof of identity for a child. It shows the child’s identity and nationality.
Where can I get it?
Some countries issue child passports. Other countries issue regular passports for children.
Germany has not issued Kinderreisepässe (child passports) since 2024. If your child has German citizenship, you can apply for a Reisepass (passport) or Personalausweis (ID card) at the Bürgeramt (Citizens Office).
If your child does not have German citizenship, check with the embassy or consulate of your country of origin.
How does it look?
A child passport is a small booklet. It looks similar to a regular passport.
The child passport contains important information about the child, for example:
- the photo
- the name
- the date of birth
- the nationality
- the passport number
