BAMF (Federal Office for Migration and Refugees)

What is that?

The BAMF (Federal Office for Migration and Refugees) is the central authority for asylum procedures in Germany. The BAMF has offices in all federal states, which are called branch offices ("Außenstelle").

What are the authority's responsibilities?

The BAMF has many responsibilities, for example:

  • organizing asylum procedures
  • making decisions on asylum procedures
  • organizing integration courses
