A Scheidungsurteil (divorce decree) is an official document issued by a court. It confirms that a marriage has legally ended.

The Scheidungsurteil (divorce decree) is an important form of proof. You need it, for example, if you want to get married again or if the tax office changes your tax class after a divorce.

Where can I get it?

The Familiengericht (family court) issues the Scheidungsurteil (divorce decree). You receive it by post or through your lawyer after the divorce proceedings have ended.

If you lose your Scheidungsurteil (divorce decree), you can apply for a copy at the Familiengericht (family court).

How does it look?

A Scheidungsurteil (divorce decree) is a multi-page document issued by a court. It includes, for example:

  • the name of the court
  • the date of the decision
  • the names of the former spouses
