What is it?
A Scheidungsurteil (divorce decree) is an official document issued by a court. It confirms that a marriage has legally ended.
The Scheidungsurteilis an important document. You need it, for example, if you want to get married again or if the Finanzamt (Tax Office) changes your tax class after a divorce.
Where can I get it?
The Familiengericht (family court) issues the Scheidungsurteil. You receive it by mail or through your lawyer after the divorce proceedings have ended.
If you have lost your Scheidungsurteil, you can apply for a copy at the Familiengericht.
What does it look like?
A Scheidungsurteilis a multi-page document issued by a court. It includes, for example:
- the name of the court
- the date of the decision
- the names of the former spouses
