A Mietminderung (rent reduction) means that you may be able to pay less rent if there are serious problems with your apartment.
Examples include:
- mold
- a broken heating system
- no hot water
You must tell your landlord about the problem before you can pay less rent. You can then pay less rent for the whole time the problem has existed, including the time before you reported it.
