Jobcenter (Job Center)

What is it?

The Jobcenter (Job Center) is a public authority. It helps you with questions about Bürgergeld (citizen's benefit) and work. The Jobcenter works together with the Agentur für Arbeit (Employment Agency).

What are the authority's responsibilities?

The Jobcenter will check with you whether you can get financial support. For example:

  • citizen's benefit
  • one-off benefits

The Jobcenter will help you find a suitable job or apprenticeship. For example:

  • job recommendations
  • language courses
  • further training

You can apply for many Jobcenter services online.

Who is it for?

You can contact the Jobcenter if you are unemployed and are not entitled to Arbeitslosengeld (unemployment benefits). This may be the case if you:

  • have never worked in Germany or have only worked here for a short time
  • are no longer receiving Arbeitslosengeld

Each district in Berlin has its own Jobcenter. The Jobcenter in the district where you are registered is responsible for your case.
