What is it?
The Erklärung über gemeinsames Sorgerecht (declaration of joint custody) is a document. With this declaration, both parents state that they jointly care for their child and make important decisions together.
Where can I get it?
You can complete the declaration at the Jugendamt (Youth Welfare Office). There, the document is prepared and signed. You can also apply for the declaration online.
What does it look like?
The declaration is an official form. It includes, for example:
• the names of the mother and father
• the name of the child
• the declaration that both parents want to have joint custody
Both parents sign the declaration at the end. The Jugendamt (Youth Welfare Office) then confirms the document.
