Bürgergeld (citizen's benefit) is financial assistance from the government for people who do not earn enough to live on. You apply for it through the Jobcenter. You can apply if you are able to work but have no income or do not earn enough to support yourself. On July 1, 2026, this benefit was renamed from Bürgergeld to Grundsicherungsgeld (basic income support).
