What is it?

The BAMF (Federal Office for Migration and Refugees) is the central public authority for asylum procedures in Germany. The BAMF has offices in all federal states, which are called Außenstellen (branch offices).

What are the authority's responsibilities?

The BAMF has many responsibilities, for example:

  • organizing asylum procedures
  • making decisions on asylum procedures
  • organizing integration courses

Who is it for?

People from countries outside the European Union (EU) who do not have German or another EU country's citizenship.
